Full-day excursion combining a visit to South Plazas Island—renowned for its extraordinary terrestrial biodiversity and volcanic landscapes—with snorkeling at Punta Carrión, a turquoise-water bay ideal for observing marine life.
This tour offers a well-rounded experience including an interpretive hike, birdwatching, close encounters with endemic wildlife, and water activities in one of the most attractive natural settings in the Galápagos.
Departure time: Between 7:00 and 8:00 AM
Approximate return time: 4:30 PM
The experience begins in Puerto Ayora with a land transfer to the Itabaca Channel, followed by an approximately 45-minute navigation to South Plazas Island.
Despite its small size, South Plazas Island stands out for its remarkable biological and scenic diversity. Formed by ancient lava flows, the island features trails surrounded by characteristic vegetation that turns reddish during the dry season and vibrant green in the rainy season, blooming with delicate yellow flowers in the late afternoon.
During the hike, visitors may observe colonies of sea lions, yellow-colored land iguanas, marine iguanas, and even hybrid iguanas. Seabirds such as swallow-tailed gulls, Nazca boobies, and other species are frequently seen flying along the cliffs.
The tour then continues with navigation to Punta Carrión, a turquoise bay where snorkeling takes place. At this site, guests can swim alongside reef sharks, rays, and a wide variety of tropical fish, enjoying a vibrant and unique marine ecosystem.
After completing the activities, guests return to Puerto Ayora.
